Simply Moving Philippines Inc. (Segway Philippines) is taking tourism to a different level through its Navigator Tour that is similar to those in Paris, San Francisco, Bahamas, Canada and Singapore, among others, where the brand’s personal transport is used to promote tourism.
“Our company already established different tours in the country specifically in Boracay and Enchanted Kingdom [in Santa Rosa, Laguna]. This year, we will be establishing The Navigator Tour,” said Wilson Lei, chief executive officer of Segway Philippines.
The Navigator Tour will include Club Intramuros Golf Course, Intramuros and other tourist spots in Manila such as the Manila Bay and Rizal Park. Future locations will include popular destinations such as Subic Bay, Tagaytay, Baguio, Legaspi (Mayon Volcano), Cebu, Palawan, Bohol (Chocolate Hills), Banaue Rice Terraces and Davao, among others.
The Segway experience in Manila begins at the Club Intramuros Golf Course, specifically at the Clubhouse where members and guests can use Segways to navigate around the 18 holes of the golf course. For the families of the golfers and students from the nearby colleges and universities who wish to have a little adventure, Segway Philippines shall establish a Segway Track inside the golf course. Aside from added recreational activities, Segway Philippines can also promote Club Intramuros Golf Course as the first Segway Golf Course in the country, attracting more tourists here and abroad.
Segway Philippines’ partner in the Navigator Tour is the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, an agency under the Department of Tourism.
Segway Philippines will be deploying its personal transporters for use by tourists.
The Segway Personal Transporter has a unique technology because it is a self-balancing, zero-emission personal transportation vehicle. Segway Personal Transporters use dynamic stabilization technology where the center of gravity of a person’s body enables the vehicle to move forward, backwards and 360 degrees on the same spot.
Because Segway Philippines is also prioritizing safety, it requires those taking the Navigator Tour to wear the required safety gears like helmets, knee and elbow pads that are provided by the company. Guest riders will also receive hands on instruction from a fully trained employee of Segway Philippines. After watching of the safety video and once every Personal Transporter rider gains confidence that usually this takes 3 to 5 minutes, the guided tour will begin.
Riders must also be at least 100 pounds but not more than 270 pounds, while the minimum age is 14 years old. Only one rider per Segway Personal Transport will be allowed and riders should not be intoxicated.
