The Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Foundation Inc., the largest organization of electronics firms in the country, has embarked on an employment mission to provide jobs to Super Typhoon Yolanda victims.
This initiative was spearheaded by HGST (a Western Digital company), one of the organization’s members that had conducted an employment mission in Aklan and Ormoc. HGST, being part of the Seipi board of trustees shared their corporate social responsibility activity with the rest of the board, which as a group agreed that this mission should be an industry-wide effort.
Five of Seipi’s member-firms, HGST Philippines Corp., Epson Philippines, Microsemi Corp., Testech Inc. and Alliance Mansols Inc., all located in Region IV-A, participated in the recent mission. The firms will hire 1,500 operators, technicians, engineers and other professionals.
The electronics industry provides workers with an above-average minimum wage plus complete benefits, a continuous learning atmosphere and a good working environment. Most of the hired employees will be working in sophisticated, high-tech facilities.
After the mission in Ormoc, Seipi will again sound its members on more job opportunities for the year. Should there be a good number, Seipi will do another employment mission in other provinces hit by calamities.
Beyond providing employment, member-companies will also shoulder the medical examination of the applicants that will pass the final interview, and provide accommodation assistance when they arrive in Manila.
