On the same day the official campaign period for the May elections kicked off, Sen. Grace Poe took a moment to speak with showbiz writers present at her Plaza Miranda rally to laud the latest remake of Ang Panday on TV5.

The daughter of the late King of Philippine Movies Fernando Poe Jr., Sen. Grace said she is very excited to see Richard Gutierrez’s take on a role that her father had turned into a screen icon for many generations of Filipinos.

She even said she would happily promote the project as she goes about her presidential campaign, and true enough, the very next day, she invited listeners of Martin Andanar and Erwin Tulfo’s program on Radyo Singko to watch the show.

“Ay, nga pala po. Sa lahat po ng mga nakikinig na mga taxi driver natin. Mayroong teleserye din ang TV5 na Panday,” she gamely announced.

The former MTRCB chief also revealed that Ang Panday is her favorite film among her father’s works because Flavio’s life is somewhat similar to hers.

“Unknown to many, Flavio is also a foundling like myself, and I hear that Direk Carlo (J. Caparas) will be highlighting this in the new version of Panday,” she continued.

Besides Panday, the senator also counts FPJ’s big action movies Isang Bala Ka Lang, Kapag Puno na ang Salop, and Muslim .357. as her favorites.
