SENATOR Cynthia Villar admitted on Thursday that she had dinner with socialite Ruby Tuason and Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada last year but she maintained that it was purely a social event.
The dinner was at Tuason’s mansion in Dasmarinas Village in Makati City.
Villar made the admission after Estrada claimed that he and another senator had dinner with Tuason before the 2013 mid-term elections.
According to Villar, she got to know Tuason when she was working as the social secretary of former President and now Manila City Mayor Joseph Estrada.
“I had dinner with Ms. Tuason and Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, but it was purely social,” Villar said in a statement sent to reporters.
“She (Tuason) was trying to bring me closer to Sen. Jinggoy since he was planning to run for a higher position,” Villar added.
Estrada did not name Villar as the “other senator” but he gave clues to reporters. He said the senator was a neophyte and belongs to the Senate majority bloc.
