Senate panel cites 2 witnesses in contempt in ‘shabu’ shipment mess

THE Senate blue ribbon committee has cited in contempt two of its resource persons in the P6.4 billion “shabu” shipment for allegedly lying to the committee.

Senator Richard Gordon, chairman of the panel, ordered that Richard Tan, also known as Richard Chen, owner of the warehouse in Valenzuela City where the drugs were taken, and trader Manny Li remain under the custody of the Senate until they could tell the truth regarding a list that was supposed to show the contents of the shipment.

It was Minority Leader Vicente Sotto 3rd who moved to hold the two in contempt.

Senators learned that the original packing list that came from Tan, listed the four cylinders where the alleged illegal substance was contained. In the list provided by Li, the four cylinders were no longer included.

Tan and Li will remain under the custody of the Senate until Aug. 15 when the hearing resumes.
