SENATE majority leader Alan Peter Cayetano on Tuesday challenged three of his colleagues implicated in the multi-billion peso pork barrel scam, to appear before the senate blue ribbon investigation on the scam and allow themselves to be questioned regarding the issue.
Cayetano, made the challenge upon learning that Senators Ramon Revilla Jr., Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada and Juan Ponce Enrile reportedly wants Janet Napoles, the alleged architect of the scam, to appear before the blue ribbon hearing.
The three are facing plunder compliant before the office of the Ombudsman along with the Napoles and other government officials.
The senate majority leader said that if the three senators want Napoles to appear before the committee hearing and testify, they should also do the same in order to settle the issue once and for all.
Senate blue ribbon committee chair Teofisto Guingona 3rd, earlier said that the committee does not see the need to ask the three senators to attend the proceedings.
Guingona is more interested in having Napoles testify before the committee because he believe that the controversial businesswoman could provide curtail information that would help the committee come up with measures that could further safeguard public funds.
But lawyer Lorna Kapunan, in an earlier statement said that she would advise her client not to attend the committee hearing.
Revilla has recently expressed his willingness to support the move of the blue ribbon committee to subpoena Napoles, noting that it is high time for her to face the senate investigators.
“The truth will always come out. The truth will always prevail and it’s better for the truth to come out in order to put an end to the issue because marami nang nadadamay, and I’m of them,” he said.
Revilla is reportedly close to the Napoles, in fact the lawmaker’s son Bryan is a business partner of James Christopher Lim-Napoles son of the Janet.
The Times tried to get the side of Revilla and Estrada on Cayetano’s challenged but the lawmakers are not responding to the queries. JEFFERSON ANTIPORDA
