Senators see Santiago’s triumph over cancer


SENATORS were saddened when Sen. Miriam Santiago on Wednesday announced that she has stage-four lung cancer but they expressed optimism that the feisty lawmaker can overcome her ailment.

Sen. Serge Osmeña 3rd said it was very sad news and he will pray that heaven will make Santiago whole again.

Osmeña and Santiago are not on good terms and on several occasions engaged in word wars.

Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., through his lawyer Joel Bodegon, also expressed support for Santiago in her fight against cancer and vowed to continue to pray for health and the immediate recovery of the lawmaker.

The lady solon is a non-smoker.

She will be undergoing a six-month treatment and will be unable to perform her legislative duties during that period.

On the other hand, Sen. Antonio Trillanes, who was also saddened by the news, noted that Santiago managed to be humorous about her current medical condition and somehow softened the impact of the news.

“Obviously, she doesn’t want us to feel sad about her condition,” Trillanes added.

Sen. Nancy Binay expressed confidence that with the Senator’s feisty attitude, she can surely win her battle with cancer. “I’ll be praying for her successful treatment,” Binay added.
