SENIOR citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) on Monday complained of difficulty in voting.
At San Antonio National High School in Makati City, senior citizens and PWDs lamented the lack of special precinct for them complaining that they had to go up to the higher floors to cast their votes.
The same complaint was raised at Carlos P. Garcia High School in Manila City.
Eric Baduria, coordinator of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) at Carlos P. Garcia High School said many elderly and PWDs complained because their polling precincts were located in higher floors.
“Mahina na nga sila tapos kailangan pa nilang umakyat ng hagdan (They are already weak and yet they have to take the stairs to reach their precincts,)” he told The Manila Times.
Because of this, Baduria suggested that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) should designate a special polling precincts for the elderly and PWDs to be located in ground floors.
“By doing this, our senior citizens and PWDs will be convenient in casting their votes during elections,” he added.
