• A senior prom for real seniors

50-year-olds and above invited to healthy and fun initiative

WHILE it is certain that every senior citizen seeks to be healthy and active, the motivation to do so is often difficult to come by.

As men and women age, gradual changes occur in the body especially when it comes to strength. Even daily and simple tasks like getting up from the bed or climbing up the stairs can become difficult. Often, the culprit is part of the aging process—a condition called sarcopenia, which is defined as a natural decline in muscle mass, strength, and functionality.

Though no one can control all the physical changes that come with aging, living a healthy and active lifestyle is something senior citizens can choose to do to manage these conditions.

Besides walking and other cardio activities, muscles need to be exercised to maintain its strength. To start with, lifting manageable objects like bottled water and lunges can go a long way.

Recognizing the need for more enjoyable outlets for senior citizens to stay healthy and active, Enervon Prime—a milk supplement which provides the recommended amount of protein and Vitamin D to help delay sarcopenia—began in 2014 a surefire platform in motivating adults 50 years old and up to enjoy an active lifestyle.

The campaign dubbed, “Stronger for Longer,” the brand launched a series of decade-themed “Senior Prom” featuring the music and dances of the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s at RJ Bistro in Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati.

“It’s encouraging to see baby boomers being active and having fun. They come to the senior prom all dressed up in their ‘50s and ‘60’s outfits, participating in games and dancing together,” related music man RJ Jacinto after whom the venue was named, and who plays the music for prom nights himself.

“Having a venue for active fun like this gives adults over 50 the chance to not only have fun, but also to relive their youth with songs from their generation. And experiencing this in the company of fellow seniors gives them a sense of belonging,” Jacinto added.

Since the campaign launch, Enervon Prime has held two senior proms, ‘50s Flashback and Groovy ‘60s, and to kick off the year, the brand invites consumers to grab their disco shoes and hustle to the beat of the ‘70s on February 6.

“I’m glad Enervon Prime makes this experience possible and gives me the strength to enjoy it,” said Antonio Romero 3rd, one of the attendees.

Tickets to the ‘70s Senior Prom are available at RJ Bistro.
