SEOUL SUMMONS JAPANESE ENVOY OVER ISLAND DISPUTE

SEOUL: South Korea summoned the Japanese ambassador on Friday over what it saw as a fresh move by Japan to stake its claim to a disputed set of tiny islets and promote its stance in school text books. The foreign ministry called in ambassador Koro Bessho to formally convey its protest over a section in Japan’s newly released foreign policy report “Diplomatic Bluebook 2014.” The report, drafted every year by the Japanese foreign ministry, identified the disputed islets—known as Dokdo in Korean and Takeshima in Japanese—as Japanese territory.
