Sereno won’t inhibit from Binay case

1

Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno and two justices of the Supreme Court (SC) refused to inhibit themselves from the preventive suspension case of Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “JunJun” Binay.

Aside from Sereno, Associate Justices Antonio Carpio and Martin Villarama Jr. also refused to recuse from Binay’s case.

Carpio was asked by the Binay camp to stay away from the case because he is a cousin of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales. Villarama’s inhibition was sought because his wife, former SC Clerk of Court Maria Luisa Villarama, was a former consultant at the Office of the Ombudsman. Sereno meanwhile was accused of being biased against Binay.

It’s now high time for the Binays to realize that Makati is not their domain, we are a republic not a monarchy.
