VETERANS Julius Sermona, Arnel Ferrera and Felyn Dolloso topped their respective events in athletics on Monday in the 2014 Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Olympic Committee (PSC-POC) National Games at the Philsports Complex in Pasig City.
Sermona of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) posted 14:48.22 to rule the men’s 5,000-meter run while her teammate Ferrera notched 40.39-m in men’s discuss throw. Dolloso of De La Salle-Dasmariñas dominated the women’s triple jump with a12.08-m leap.
Sonny Wagdos (15:10.36 seconds) of Team Titus-Pasay finished second behind Sermona followed by Cesar Cataneto of Baguio (15:15.90-sec.) A close second behind Ferrera in discuss throw was Julius Felicisimo Nieras also of PAF with 39.67 while John Albert Mantua of Jose Rizal University was third with 37.76-m.
PAF’s Joeann Bermudo finished second in the women’s triple jump with 11.34-m and Michelle Loterte of University of Sto. Tomas third with 11:16-m.
Meanwhile, a total of 6,750 athletes competed in the fourth edition of the PNG exceeding the 5,000 competitors that joined last year’s edition of the annual multisport meet.
