The national bowling team will be gunning for medals in the 23rd Asian Tenpin Championship beginning today at the Blu-O Rhythm and Bowl Ratchayothin in Bangkok, Thailand.
Enrico Lorenzo Hernandez, Jayson John Tubid, Benshir Layoso, Jeremy Posadas, Jeffrey Carabeo and Giancarlo Mansilungan comprised the men’s team while 2002 double-gold medalist Liza Del Rosario banners the women’s squad.
The other members of the team are Ann Marie Dianne Kiac, Krizziah Tabora, Lara Posadas, Liza Clutario and Marie Alexis Sy in the event sanctioned by the Asian Bowing Federation.
The team aims to erase the country’s forgettable campaigns in the 2012 edition in Hong Kong and 2010 in United Arab Emirates (UAE) where they went home without a medal.
The last time the Philippines won a gold in the tournament was in 2008 when Chester King topped the men’s all events category. In that year, Raoul Miranda also bagged a silver (men’s all events) and a bronze (men’s singles).
Del Rosario was the last female Filipino winner in the Asian meet after ruling the ladies’ singles and all events in 2002 in Hong Kong.
Former world champion and Asian Games gold medalist Biboy Rivera was originally part of the team but opted to skip after suffering knee injury in the 2014 World Men’s Bowling Championships in UAE in December.
