Jennylyn Mercado was named the sexiest Filipina in the country this year by leading men’s magazine, FHM, in July. Just before the month ended, the hot celebrity momma was given another sexy role as the underwear brand ambassador of Avon Fashions.
On July 29, Avon Philippines staged the grandest of show with a circus theme and Victoria’s Secret feel to welcome Mercado to the family, as well as introduce her to members of the media.
“Avon is delighted to welcome Jennylyn as brand ambassador for Avon Fashions’ Intimate Apparel line. Besides being a multi-awarded actress and singer, a passionate triathlete, and a most dedicated and loving mom, Jennylyn truly embodies the qualities that define an Avon woman: beauty, confidence, and sense of purpose and empowerment,” announced Avon Philippines Marketing Director Jean Reyes at the event held at the Shooting Gallery Studios in Makati City.
Wearing her favorite Avon Fashions lingerie from the brand’s latest collection, Mercado even did the honors of opening the night with a beautiful and soulful song. But more notable was her confidence in strutting the runway despite the fact that it was her first-ever lingerie fashion show.
In an interview with the lifestyle press, Mercado shared how she is able to maintain not just a sexy but more importantly, a content disposition in life.
Question: What are your vital statistics?
Jennylyn Mercado: It’s 33, 24, 33. It’s not even perfect because the waistline should be 23. But I am happy with what I have now.
Q: How do you maintain your figure?
JM: During tapings—even at breaks—I make sure that I have little exercise like sit-ups or push-ups. Because now I don’t have the time to work out [because of different TV and film projects]. I don’t even have time to train for triathlon anymore, which I used to do before.
Q: Do you plan to go back to triathlon?
JM: Yes. I have a scheduled race this December. But short distance only so that I can release all my stress and exhaustion from work.
Q: Why triathlon?
JM: Because it’s a different discipline. For me, the harder it is, the better I like it. It’s a [kind of]different pride when you’re able to accomplish all three disciplines of running, biking and swimming. Iba ‘yong high when I tell myself, ‘Natapos ko siya! Nakaya ko siya [I finished it! I did it]!’”
Q: What’s the longest distance you’ve finished?
JM: One-kilometer swim, 60-km bike, and 10-km run.
Q: What’s your favorite piece in the Avon Fashions new collection of Intimate Apparel?
JM: The Lavelle, which is in color teal, because it fits me perfectly. When you’re already a mommy, your body is not perfect anymore especially the upper body. So I need a little lift. And yes, I do like a little cup on the bra for the lift.
Q: Classic or trendy underwear?
JM: It depends. But comfort is still No. 1 for me.
Q: How does it feel being the sexiest Filipina?
JM: I didn’t aim for it. It’ just happened so I am embracing it.
Q: Define sexy?
JM: It’s how you carry and handle yourself. If you feel sexy in the inside, it will come out in the outside.
Q: What will you say to fellow Pinays who try so hard to be sexy? Do you think it matters?
JM: I won’t encourage them to try so hard because for me, what matters is that you just need to love yourself, your body. That’s it.
Q: When did you tell yourself “I am sexy”?
JM: After I gave birth, I accepted my flaws. There is nothing else to do so I just embraced it and loved myself even more. That was the time I told myself, “I am sexy!”
