NCAA runner-up Arellano University smashed Southwestern University in straight sets on Thursday in the Shakey’s V-League First Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Chiefs attacked relentlessly to carve out the 25-15, 25-17, 25-19 win.
Arellano posted leads of as much as 11 points in the first set and widened the gap to as much as eight in the second before the second unit of the Lady Chiefs took as much as a nine-point advantage in the third as they collected their first win in their debut and pulled down the Lady Cobras to 1-1 at the middle of the standings.
Danna Henson paced Arellano with 13 points including three aces, while NCAA’s Best Attacker CJ Rosario posted 12 points with two blocks for the Lady Chiefs whose 35 attack points in the first two frames alone was more than the Lady Cobra’s total production in the first two sets.
Marlyn Llagoso, SWU’s leading scorer in the first game, was limited to just eight points, while Lutgarda Malaluan was good for only six markers.
