Celebrities gave help and offered messages of support for the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda on Monday.
At the Raffles Hotel after the launch of the Christmas festivities at Ayala Malls, Mega star Sharon Cuneta donated P10 million for victims of the monster typhoon.
She gave P5 million each to the Aboitiz Foundation, which raised P30 million for relief efforts, and to Alagang Kapatid, ABC 5’s foundation.
“This is how much I believe in you both. God bless Visayas”, the actress said on Twitter.
Singer Martin Nievera joined Cuneta in appealing for help for the typhoon victims.
“Words cannot heal and bring back everything, the lives lost. But my words of comfort is (for them) to hold on. Hold on. Be confident in knowing they are not alone,” said Nievera. “They were not chosen (to experience the typhoon). We cannot choose the path of a storm. (But always remember) we are here for you.”
He urged people not affected by the typhoon to donate at the Ayala Malls where boxes will be left at the concierge.
Actor Sam Milby echoed Nievera’s call for help. “It’s so hard to give comforting words. The only thing we can say is that we are here to support and help,” he said.
“That’s the good thing about Filipinos, they help each other.”
Veteran performer Kuh Ledesma “everybody especially those unaffected must help. If everybody pitched in, the loss will be overcome.”
Piolo Pascual advised everyone to just pray. “We can only do so much. More than the material things, the bottomline is to really pray. And not just pray once but pray hard. Ask the Lord to stir the hearts of people who have something to give. To be more compassionate,” he said.
All four celebrities are part of the Stars of Joy who will perform in fund-raising concerts for the Ayala Malls Christmas.
