SHELL has announced that it has extended what it calls a “technical partnership” with Ducati for a further three years, or until the end of 2016. The extension means the two iconic brands will continue to cooperate on marketing activities and the supply of Shell Advance motorcycle oil for the first fill-up of Ducati road bikes at the motorcycle maker’s Borgo Panigale factory.

Shell said that the partnership also involves continued collaboration on research and development, including the development of bespoke products for the MotoGP teams—the Ducati Team and the officially supported Pramac Racing Team.

“We are delighted to announce that Shell will continue the Technical Partnership with Ducati,” said Andrew Hepher, general manager for marketing consumer brands and product at Shell International. “The two brands share a successful history both on and off the track and it’s fantastic to be able to continue our relationship both in the development of products for road bikes and in the toughest motorcycle racing championship in the world—the MotoGP.

“The cutting-edge technology developed through this partnership in the harshest environment—the track—allows Shell to better formulate the Shell Advance motorcycle oils and Shell V-Power performance fuel to help bikers keep their bikes at peak condition,” the Shell executive added.

Shell and Ducati first partnered in 1999 in the World Superbike (WSB) Championship, with the two companies eventually entering the top-level MotoGP World Championship. Their link in the past 15 years had become one of the strongest and most successful within the motorcycle racing world, with successes that count six WSB riders’ titles and nine manufacturers’ titles. In MotoGP, the partnership has produced a riders’ and a constructors’ world crown in 2007.

Ducati Motor Holding chief executive, Claudio Domenicali, confirmed Shell products’ positive role in the company’s road and race bikes, saying that these have been “instrumental in helping us to achieve ever-increasing on-track performance allied to exceptional reliability.”

“We also know that using Shell Advance motorcycle oils as the first-fill in our road bikes ensures they are looked after in the best possible way,” Domenicali added.
