Shellfish ban lifted in Bataan

BALANGA City: The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has lifted the shellfish ban in Bataan after laboratory tests showed that all kinds of shellfish in eight coastal towns in the province tested negative of the red tide poison, provincial agriculturist Imelda Inieto announced Wednesday. Inieto added that fishermen can now gather and sell all types of shellfish as these are already safe for human consumption. BFAR imposed the prohibition on the gathering, transporting and eating of shellfish in Bataan in October 2014. Fishermen from the towns of Orani, Samal, Abucay, Pilar, Orion, Limay and Mariveles and the City of Balanga were affected by the ban.
