• Showbiz bids farewell to well-loved Soxie Topacio

    After the death of Socrates “Soxie” Topacio’s was confirmed on Friday night, farewells and tributes for the beloved veteran theater, film and television actor and director—remembered for his jolly ways and larger than life personality— flooded social media feeds from showbiz netizens.

    “Godspeed, Soxie Topacio. Pakibati si Mama Lino [Brocka] para sa amin, pakiyakap. Ituro mo kay Jake Tordesillas yung ‘60s na sayaw mo bilang janitor sa High School Circa ‘65. Salamat nang marami sa tawanan no’ng kabataan natin. Hindi ka namin kalilimutan!” writer, director and actress Bibeth Orteza wrote on Facebook.

    “My first musical, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar,’ was directed by Soxie Topacio. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing,” singer-actor Jett Pangan of The Dawn reminisced on Facebook.

    “RIP Direk Soxie Topacio. Siya ang director ko nung bata ako sa soap opera na ‘Criselda’ noong 1992,” actress Francine Prieto wrote on using her Twitter account @NorWEIRDgian.

    “Rest In Peace, Soxy Topacio. Sigh…” international actress Lea Salonga also tweeted.

    Jose Javier Reyes through his Twitter account @DirekJoey wrote, “Have a safe trip home to the arms of Our Father. Applause for a life so well-lived, Soxy Topacio. You will be missed as you are loved.”

    Topacio was pronounced dead on Friday night at De Los Santos Medical Center after a difficult battle with lung cancer.
