Prays for beloved talent manager’s recovery
As Philippine show business mourned the death of blockbuster director Wenn Deramas on February 29, another tragedy shook the industry in the days that followed.
Francis Xavier Pasion, the 38-year-old co-director of the recently concluded hit ABS-CBN prime time series On the Wings of Love (OTWOL), was found dead on March 6 in the bathroom of his home in Quezon City. The young director succumbed to cardiac arrest, which was also Deramas’ cause of death.
Before his foray into TV directing, Pasion can be best remembered as the man behind several award-winning Cinemalaya indie films. His last entry was Bwaya, which won the New Breed category at the 10th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition in 2014.
He was critically acclaimed for his work in Jay (2008), which starred Barron Geisler and Coco Martin. The movie won Best Full Length Feature in Cinemalaya that year. Jay was also the first Filipino film to compete at the Venice International Film Festival’s Orrizonti (New Horizons) category.
Pasion’s independent filmmaking background paved the way for his mainstream career particularly for TV. His first big series was Princess and I, which starred Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo in their fist major romantic teleserye back in 2012.
Incidentally, OTWOL, his last project for ABS-CBN, was also the first major series of James Reid and Nadine Lustre tandem in TV.

As if these two heart-breaking deaths were not enough to sadden the biz, much loved talent manager Cornelia Lee, known to many as Tita Angge, also suffered a heart attack on March 5.
She was rushed to the Cardinal Santos Memorial Medical Center in San Juan City. Although she was proclaimed dead on arrival, doctors were able to revive her. She remains in critical condition as stars and fellow managers continue to pray for her recovery.
