• Shuttle bus falls off Skyway, driver injured

A shuttle bus fell off the Skyway in Parañaque City on Sunday, injuring its driver.

Louie Maralit, chief of the traffic management security of Skyway O&M Corporation, said the mini-bus fell after it was bumped from behind by a Toyota Fortuner at around 5:17 a.m.

It was the second time in three months that a vehicle has fallen off the Skyway. On Dec. 16, a passenger bus of Don Mariano Transit plunged from the elevated highway and at least 22 people were killed.

The mini-bus driver, identified as Allan Nopal, was brought to the Parañaque Doctors Hospital. There was no report of his condition.

Maralit said that except for the driver the mini-bus was empty. It had just brought Skyway employees to their assigned toll booths.

The mini-bus fell just in front of the Amaia Condo in Barangay San Valley.

Southern Police District (SOD) Director Chief Superintendent Jose Erwin Villacorte said the shuttle bus was on the Skyway’s southbound lane when the Fortuner smashed into it.

Villacorte said the Nopal lost control of the wheel and the mini-bus jumped the highway’s railing and dropped onto the service road.

The driver of the Fortuner was unhurt.
