Filipino-German Marc Sieber bagged the singles and doubles titles in the 2016 Turkey Futures – Tennis Organization Cup held at the Belconti Resort Tennis Courts in Antalya, Turkey.
The 28-year-old Sieber posted an easy 6-3, 6-0 win over second seed Christopher Heyman of Belgium to claim his third straight singles title in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Futures event.
He advanced to the finals by ousting Katsuki Nagao of Japan in the first round, 6-2, 6-1, Issel Okamura of Japan in the second round, 5-7, 6-2, 6-0, Remi Boutillier of France in the quarterfinals, 7-6 (11), 6-1, and another Japanese, Ryota Kishi in the semifinals, 6-0, 7-5.
Sieber made it a double celebration as he teamed up with Christoph Negritu of Germany in winning the doubles crown.
Sieber and Negritu needed an extra set before stopping the Italian duo of Alessandro Bega and Lorenzo Frigerio in the championship round, 6-4, 6-7 (1), 12-10.
They beat Alex Blumenberg of Brazil and Joel Cannell of England in the opening round (6-2, 6-3), Turkey’s Altug Celikbilek and Sefa Suluoglu in the quarterfinals (2-6, 6-1, 10-5) and Japan’s Katsuki Nagao and Hiromasa Oku in the semifinals (6-3, 7-5) to reach the final stage.
“It’s been a great week. I’m happy that I’m back to my old form, playing aggressive game and I’m looking forward to winning more in the next tournaments that I’ll be joining,” said Sieber, whose mom was a native of Cagayan De Oro City.
Last month, Sieber also ruled the singles events of the first two legs of the 2016 International Tennis Federation Turkey Futures.
Meanwhile, promising netter Alberto Lim Jr. survived wild card Siddhant Banthia of India, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-2, to barge into the second round of the Asian B1 ITF Pune Open Junior Tennis Championship being held at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune, India.
