ILOILO CITY: Cleanliness in all city barangays and the proper implementation of the four o’clock habit are needed in the fight against dengue brought about by dengue carrying mosquitoes that thrive in dirty surroundings especially in stagnant water. This was the clear message of city mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog to all barangay officials to lead the battle against dengue in their respective areas and get rid of mosquito spawning grounds. Mabilog said that dengue fever is now a worldwide disease and the Department of Health and World Health Organization is recognizing the mosquito malady as a very serious health concern. The city health office reported a total of 383 dengue cases with 6 deaths from the period January 1 to June 8, 2013. From May 19 to June 8, 2013, three deaths, mostly children are recorded. The dead children were Czarina Danielz Lavalle of Barangay Balabago, Jaro 2; John Michael Ca. Alimajan of Barangay Cubay, Jaro 3 and Kenneth Ditchon of Barangay Luna, Jaro 2.
