BAGUIO CITY: A six-hour brownout will hit some Benguet towns on Saturday and two-hour brownout in some areas in Baguio City and the whole of Mt. Province on Sunday.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said the scheduled shutdown of some of its transmission facilities, particularly in the Lamut and Dalicno substations of franchisee Benguet Electric Cooperative (Beneco), on Saturday starts at 6 a.m until 6 p.m.
Lilibeth Gaydowen, NGCP spokesperson, said the shutdown is prompted by the commissioning and energization of the new 300-mega-volt ampere power transformer and other associated equipment at La Trinidad Substation; simultaneous with line maintenance of the La Trinidad – Philex 69-kilovolt line.
On Sunday, Irisan, Sanitary Camp barangay in Baguio and Atok and Mankayan substations in Benguet and the entire Mt. Province Electric Cooperative, Inc. (MOPRECO) will be out of electricity from 10 a.m. until noon.
The scheduled brownout is meant to facilitate substation works in relation to the ongoing upgrading project at the La Trinidad substation, Gaydowen said, further advising the public to take the necessary preparations and precautions for the power interruption.
Normal operations will immediately resume after work completion, she said.
