SK ABOLITION PREMATURE, SAYS LAWMAKER

THE proposal seeking to abolish the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) may have a hard time getting support especially from the younger members of the upper chamber although most of them believe that there is a need to amend the law. Sen. Teofisto Guingona 3rd said that lawmakers should look into the situation of the SK first before considering abolishing it because it is possible that the law just needs to be enhanced to address the issues being raised against it. Guingona said the issues can be addressed just by introducing amendments to the law like increasing the age of SK officers from 15-years-old to 18-years-old, limiting the terms of SK officers, and establishing a monitoring system that will effectively monitor the collection and disbursement of funds.
