It’s official: There will be no Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections this year.

President Benigno Aquino 3rd on Wednesday signed the law once again postponing the youth council polls to October next year.

Presidential Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma on Thursday said Republic Act (RA) 10656, which synchronizes SK polls with the barangay elections on October 26, 2016, had been signed.

RA 10656 amends RA 9340 which sets the schedule of synchronized barangay and SK elections every three years, beginning in 2007.

This is the second time the SK elections have been postponed. It was originally scheduled in October 2013 but was postponed through Republic Act 10632 to a date to be determined by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) between October 28, 2014 and February 23, 2015.

But on October 21, 2014, the Comelec issued Resolution No. 9905 setting the SK polls on February 21, 2015.

The Comelec again reset the SK elections to April 25, 2015 by virtue of Resolution No. 9930 promulgated on February 5, 2015.

Ang dapat ay magkaroon ng tulad sa Israel na Kibbutz system of enhancing the youth!s awareness to become productive members of the society.
