• Skyway 3 construction 2 percent ahead of schedule

THE construction of Skyway Stage 3 project is two percent ahead of schedule, according to its contractor.

Citra Central Expressway Corporation, the project proponent said the accomplishment on the advance work is about 58 percent against the schedule of 56 percent.

It said the 10 columns for the 90-day advance work schedule that started
on February 17 when the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) gave its clearance will be up by May 16.

The advance work is part of the construction of Section 1, which is from Buendia to Plaza Dilao/Quirino Ave.

Other sections are: Plaza Dilao-Aurora Blvd (Section 2); Aurora Blvd-Quezon Ave/Del Monte Ave (Section 3) and Quezon Ave.-Bonifacio Ave/Balintawak (Section 4).

The contractor has started the concreting of the pile caps over the bored piles.

“Columns construction will follow. At 1 column/day, 10 columns should be up before May 17,” Citra said.

It added that full-blast construction will start as soon as it receives the necessary permits as well as the government’s go-signal.

As of April 14, at least 37 bored piles that form part of the foundation for the Skyway superstructure have already been installed.

The bored pile work is followed by the installation of pile cap after which the columns are erected.

Skyway Stage 3 is the 14.8-km. 2×3 elevated tollway with eight access points in strategic locations that will connect South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) with North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) from Buendia in Makati City to Balintawak in Quezon City.

The project aims decongest traffic on Metro Manila’s major thoroughfares like EDSA, C5 and Central Manila.
