GONZAGA: Slain Mayor Carlito Pentecostes Jr. here was laid to rest on Thursday.
However, townspeople who attended the burial were wondering why there were no words of condolences nor official statement conveyed from high ranking Cagayan officials.
Marilyn Pentecostes, wife of the slain mayor, said “we cannot just put justice into our hands and stand to benefit from it”.
Pentecostes was killed by armed men believed to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA) during the flag-raising ceremony at the municipal hall grounds on April 21.
There were suspicions however that some politicians were behind the brutal killing of Pentecostes despite admission by the NPA West Cagayan Command.
But the military said this is the first time they heard of this NPA rebel Command. They said that the killing was done without any coordination by the said Command with the Cagayan-based NPA Henry Abraham Command
Meanwhile, Cagayan Gov. Alvaro Antonio had backed out his plans to attend Pentecostes wake after feeling alluded to the words by the wife of slain Pentecostes, according to a high ranking official. Marilyn insisted that “politics, not the controversial black sand mining” which has something to do with her husband’smurder.
