OLONGAPO CITY: A hostage drama ended in a successful rescue of a child after a brief scuffle between a barangay official, a police officer and a hostage taker on Thursday morning in Barangay Old Caba-lan, Olongapo City.
In an interview with www.subictimes.com, Councilor Dong Galang of Old Cabalan said that the hostage drama started at around 9 a.m. in Purok 7 of that barangay.
Galang identified the hostage taker as a certain Ernesto which he described as drunk and had no sleep.
The drunk, according to Galang, held hostage his five-year-old nephew inside their compound.
He added that the suspect had a knife pressed at the back of the child.
The hostage drama ended when Galang and another police officer grappled for the knife
and subdued the hostage-taker at around 10:30 a.m.
Galang suffered a minor wound on his neck while the unidentified police officer got knife wounds in his arms.
The drunk according to Galang and Councilor Jong Cortez felt depressed after his employer blamed him for stealing from their company.
The hostage-taker is now in police custody.
