MOTORISTS can expect a snail-paced traffic in some portions of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Quezon City and Caloocan this weekend because of road repairs and reblocking to be conducted by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) advisory on Thursday said the repairs will start at 10 p.m. on Friday until 5 a.m. on Monday.
Repairs will be done along EDSA between Caloocan / Quezon City boundary and F. Aguilar Street (lane 4), between Malvar Street and Arellano Street (lane 4), between Concepcion Street and Gen. Tinio Street (lane 3), all Northbound, Caloocan City, and along Kamuning Road between Scout Ybardolaza Street to Scout Torillo Street (1st lane), Quezon City.
To avoid traffic delays, the MMDA advised motorists to use alternate routes.
Both the MMDA and DPWH earlier agreed to finish the reblocking activities at Edsa during the Holy Week.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said instead of conducting reblocking and road works in installment basis during weekends, DPWH agreed that this should be done one-time during the Holy Week.
He said this is the best time for DPWH contractors to finish road works and reblocking activities at the entire stretch of Edsa since most of the people are trooping to the provinces to observe Holy Week.
DPWH National Capital Region (NCR) Director Reynaldo Tagudando said the reblocking at Edsa from Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City to Monumento in Caloocan City will be conducted around the clock. He said the repair of Edsa’s Northbound lane will start from Holy Tuesday until Good Friday while the Southbound lane will start from Good Friday until Monday.
Based on the data of DPWH-NCR, at least 80,775 square meters of Edsa still needs to be repaired.
