Filipino figure skater Michael Martinez will be bankrolled by the SM Group of Companies and a group of Filipino-Americans in California will hold a fundraising campaign so he could compete in the 2018 Winter Olympics
President of SM Leisure and Entertainment Inc. Ed Tejero said the cost of ice skating training in the US is very expensive, but they will support Martinez to achieve his dream of winning an Olympic medal.
After placing 19th overall in the Sochi Olympics, Martinez became a sports hero for fellow Filipinos.
The Fil-Am group in California has started to pass the hat around for Martinez.
Martinez won the gold in the Triglav Trophy International Figure Skating tournament in Slovenia recently. The Muntinlupa City native also plans to compete in the European circuit in August.
