The network coverage of Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) and Sun Cellular in Southern Luzon and Bicol region improved to 93 percent of all areas recovering from Typhoon Glenda.
The telecommunications company said that subscribers may still experience intermittent mobile Internet signal and some degradation of voice calls because of remaining optimization work being undertaken in the field.
Limited network coverage in the remaining areas in these regions is due to the prolonged commercial power outage while damaged transmission equipment continues to undergo repairs, it said.
While network coverage in Metro Manila has been fully restored, prolonged power outage in Muntinlupa, Parañaque, and Las Piñas continued to affect capacity especially for mobile internet.
Most of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co.’s (PLDT’s) fixed line networks have been restored. PLDT is now focusing its efforts on assessing and addressing last mile cabling issues to offices and homes.
To aid residents in communities still experiencing disrupted services and lack of power, Smart and Sun beefed up free call, text, and power charging stations in Albay, Batangas, Camarines Sur, Cavite, Masbate, Marinduque, Quezon, the companies added.
