SMB aims to regain solo leadership

San Miguel Beer eyes to reclaim the solo leadership when it battles Northern Luzon Expressway (NLEX) today in the Philippine Basketball Association Season 41 Philippine Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

The Beermen and the Road Warriors will clash in the 7 p.m. second game after the 4:15 p.m. match between GlobalPort and Meralco.

Coach Leo Austria of San Miguel Beer is hopeful that his wards would win over NLEX team to claim the top solo. The Beermen and the Alaska Aces with similar 7-1 win-loss records are sharing the No.1 spot.

The Beermen are expected to rely on 6’10 June Mar Fajardo, Alex Cabagnot, Marcio Lassiter, Ronald Tubid, Chris Lutz, Chris Ross, Arwind Santos and Jay-R Reyes to extend their five-game winning streak.

Fajardo had a stellar performance in San Miguel Beer’s win over Mahindra last week finishing with 35 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.

The Road Warriors of coach Boyet Fernandez, for their part, are aiming to stop a two-game losing skid after losing to Alaska (81-89) and GlobalPort (90-96). NLEX will bank on veteran Paul Asi Taulava, Sean Anthony, Jonas Villanueva, Mac Cardona and Kevin Alas.

NLEX with a 4-4 win-loss record is sharing the No. 7 to 8 spots with Barako Bull.

GlobalPort is aiming for sixth win and a quarterfinals berth when it faces a struggling Meralco squad in the first game.

The Batang Pier are currently enjoying a 5-3 win-loss record occupying the No. 4 spot while the Bolts are at the bottom of the team standings with 1-8 win-loss record.
