At 18 feet, Marriott Hotel’s commanding Christmas tree glows with Christmas spirit at the base of the grand lobby staircase. It beams brighter as it brings smiles to children’s faces, even those with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities who were especially invited to the hotel’s tree lighting ceremony.

This is Marriott Hotel’s way of giving back this year in partnership with Operation Smile. Through its Christmas promotions, the hotel will provide free surgeries for the non-profit organization’s beneficiary children.

On November 10, the hotel officially lighted its Christmas tree with special guest Chadleen Lacdo-o, a former cleft palate patient of Operation Smile, who inspired guests with a rendition of “When You Believe.” Lacdo-o was also the grand champion of TV5 Kanta Pilipinas in 2012.

Helping light the Christmas tree was the Tan family comprised of Kevin and Michelle and their baby Katleena Margaret. Kevin is the first vice president and commercial vision head of Megaworld and the eldest son of Andrew Tan of Alliance Global Group, Megaworld, Emperador and McDonald’s.

Immediately after the lighting, angelic voices of Himig Rosena, the choral ambassador of Colegio de Santa Rosa-Makati, filled the whole lobby.

A traditional annual event of the hotel, this year’s Christmas tree lighting was full of smiles, songs and spread of feasts and treats and a meaningful partnership that goes beyond the Christmas lights.

Meanwhile, General Manager Bruce Winton introduced Marty, the Reindeer. According to him, every purchase of this stuffed reindeer toy (for only P500) will help raise funds for the surgery of kids of Operation Smile.

Just when everybody’s hearts are lit with the true meaning of the season, world-class entertainer Charice Pempengco surprised everyone with a special song number followed with the grand entrance of Santa Claus. Kids excitedly lined up to have their pictures taken and to whisper their wishes for Christmas.

The merriment culminated with the lavish display of food prepared by the award-winning culinary team of Executive Chef Miek Brammer. Among the many dishes he prepared, stand outs were pasta in white and red sauces with assortment of meats and veggies, live station with Smoked Bone-in Ham partnered with whipped potato and buttered corn on the side and dessert station that sampled the holiday treats of the Marriott Bakery and marshmallows and various kinds of fruits dipped in Chocolate Fondue.
