SM Prime Holdings Inc (SMPHI) said on Monday it hopes the government respects an existing contract that the common station for the elevated railway along Edsa in Quezon City will be located in front of SM North EDSA.
“SM has not received any communication from the DOTC (Department of Transportation and Communications) regarding the purported revised plans for the common station,” said Edgar Ryan San Juan, SMPHI legal counsel.
“In any case, we remain hopeful that the government will respect the terms of our valid and binding contract to locate the common station in front of SM North EDSA,” San Juan said.
DOTC had said that the two common stations for Metro Manila’s two elevated railways system contract would be signed soon. “Patapos na kami mukhang magkakapirmahan na kami on that second common station,” DOTC Secretary Emilio Joseph Abaya said.
DOTC said the second common station, as proposed by San Miguel Corp.’s Universal LRT Corp. (ULC), will be built in front of SM North EDSA, connecting Metro Rail Transit Line 3 and the future MRT-7. The government will not spend a centavo for the second station.
SMPHI has questioned the granting to rival Ayala Corp. the first common station connecting the LRT and MRTs.
SMPHI said the common station project contradicts an earlier contract between SM Prime and Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), which provides that the common station should be built beside SM North Edsa.
But DOTC said it wants the common station to be built at Trinoma Mall in Quezon City, which is owned by the Ayala group.
