So bows to Russian in World Chess Cup



Filipino Grandmaster Wesley So bowed to Russian GM  Evgeny Tomashevsky, 0.5-1.5, in their two game standard play in their second game after 23 moves of Ruy Lopez opening in the  2013  World Chess Cup in Tromso, Norway late Thursday.

So, the No. 33 seed, was beaten late Wednesday also by the No. 32 Tomashevsky in their first game after 51 moves of Grunfeld Defense, Prins Variation. So played black.

Tomashevsky advanced to Round 3 and will face the either top seed GM Levon Aronian (ELO 2813) of Armenia or No.GM Igor Lysyj (ELO 2656) of Russia.

So beat GM Alexander Ipatov of Turkey, 1.5-0.5, earlier to arrange a Round 2 encounter with Tomashevsky.
