Filipino Grandmaster (GM) Wesley So and International Master (IM) Lin Chen of China agreed to a draw in the eighth round of the 2015 Qatar Masters Open being held at the Aspire Zone in Doha, Qatar.
The two players decided to split the point after 132 moves thus ending So’s chances of claiming the top spot in the tournament which offers a whopping $25,000 to the champion and $15,000 to the runner-up.
So fell to fourth places with 16 other players with 5.5 points each.
GM Magnus Carlsen of Norway grabbed the solo leadership with 6.5 points while GM Vladimir Kramnik of Russia and GM Yu Yangyi of China are sharing the second place with six points apiece.
Carlsen blasted GM Shakhriyar Mamedyarov of Azerbaijan then Kramnik and Yu scored important wins against Russia’s GM Sanan Sjugirov and Sweden’s GM Nils Grandelius, respectively.
