So keeps lead in Unive Crown Group chess



Grandmaster Wesley So stamped his class on GM Loek Van Wely of the Netherlands in the fourth round to stay on top in the 2013 Unive Crown Group in Hoogeveen, Netherlands.

So beat Van Wely after 33 moves of Queen’s Gambit Declined Semi-Slav to raise his score to 3.5 points on three wins and one draw.

GM Robin Van Kampen of the Netherlands was in second position with two points, GM Michael Adams of England was in solo third with 1.5.

Van Wely dropped to fourth with one point.

Van Kampen and Adams agreed to a draw after 34 moves of a Sicilian Taimanov (Bastrikov) Variation in their fourth-round meeting.

So will be facing Van Kampen in the fifth round while Adams tackles Van Wely in the other match.

In the 2013 Asian Cities Chess Team Championship, host city Tagaytay is still leading after seven rounds.

Tagaytay has 13 points while China’s Shanghai and Wuxi are in a two-way tie for second with 11 points each.

Ulaanbaatar-Mongolia is in third (nine points), Manila City, Pasay City and Baghdad-Iraq in fourth (eight points each), Shah Alam-Malaysia and Sharjah-United Arab Emirates in seventh (seven points each), Singapore City, Erdenet-Mongolia, Colombo-Sri Lanka, Seoul-South Korea and Bandar Seri Begawan-Brunei Darussalam in ninth (six points each), and Taipei-Taiwan in 13th (five points), Dubai-United Arab Emirates in 14th (four points), Abu Dhabi-United Arab Emirates in 15th (three points), and Kuwait City in 16th (two points).
