Filipino Grandmaster (GM) Wesley So posted his second straight victory by outclassing American GM Daniel Naroditsky in the 2015 Qatar Masters Open being held at the Aspire Zone in Doha, Qatar.
So stayed on top with fellow second-round winners GM Anish Giri of the Netherlands, GM Yu Yangyi of China, GM Radoslaw Wojtaszek of Poland, International Master (IM) Daniil Yuffa of Russia, GM Li Chao of China, GM David Howell of England, GM Dariusz Swiercz of Poland and GM Sethurman Panayappan Sethuraman of India.
Giri outplayed GM Nils Grandelius of Sweden, Yu defeated GM Nejamin Bok of the Netherlands, Wojtaszek toppled IM Lin Chen of China, Yuffa trounced GM Viktor Bologan of Moldova, Li blasted GM Alexander Ipatov of Turkey, Howell overpowered GM Antoneata Stefanova of Bulgaria, Swiercz clobbered untitled Alireza Firouzja of Iran, and Sethuraman nipped compatriot Harshit Raja.
Top seed Carlsen Magnus of Norway and No. 2 Vladimir Kramnik of Russia are leading the group of 1.5-pointers. Magnus thumped GM Chitambaram Aravindh of India while Kramnik split the point with GM Kacper Piorun of Poland.
The 22-year-old So will be gunning for his third straight win when he battles Howell in the third round of the tournament which offers $25,000 to the champion and $15,000 to the runner-up.
The other interesting third-round pairings are Giri-Wojtaszek, Sethuraman-Li, Yu-Swiercz, Magnus-Yuffa, and Kramnik-GM Daniele Vocaturo of Italy.
