So shares lead in Edmonton


Grandmaster Wesley So drew his game against Ukrainian GM Vassily Ivanchuk in the fourth round of Edmonton Chess Festival on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila). The two now share the lead with 3.5 points.

So and Ivanchuk agreed to divide the point after 59 moves of Sicilian Paulsen.

The bout between Americans Grandmasters Irina Krush and Samuel Shankland also ended in draw after 65 moves of QCD Exchange. They have now 2.5 points each.

Canadian top Grandmaster Anton Kovalyov clinched his second straight win at the expense of his compatriot FM-elect Alex Yam in 35 moves of King’s Indian Classical. Kovalyov has 2.5 points, while Yam has 1 point.

IM Raja Panjawani of Canada beat FM Vladimir Pechenkin in 56 moves of English Symmetry for two points while IM Richard Wang beat FM Dale Haessel in 43 moves of Slav Defense. Wang has two points, while Haessel has yet to score any point.
