Team Socceroo FC grabbed their first win in this year’s United Football League season at the expense of Philippine Army FC, 4-0, on Saturday, April 11.
Jerome Cuyos opened the scoring for Socceroo in the 21st minute followed by a goal by Mashood Shadideh during the 45th minute.
Team Socceroo’s dominant offense prevailed throughout the second half as Beleu Cleopas contributed two more marks in his club’s four-goal outing against the Army FC.
Meanwhile, the Philippine national football team lands on a promising spot ahead of the official draw for the eliminations of the 2018 World Cup.
Despite dropping 11 spots from 128 to 138 in the world rankings for the month of April, the Azkals are still on the upper half of the Asian region at the 18th place before the draw at Kuala Lumpur on April 15.
Consequently, the Filipino booters will be drawn from pot number three which also houses Afghanistan, Palestine, Maldives, Thailand, Tajikistan, Lebanon and India.
As per the system of the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round Two of the Asian Football Confederation, the opponent of the Philippines is yet to be determined during the draw as no team from the same pot will be facing each other in this round.
National teams will be engaged in a double round robin format for the initial round of qualifiers and will kick-off in June.
