Rio Lorenzo Malapitan and Joey Del Rosario win three golds each in the 68th Philippine Swimming League (PSL) Leg Series dubbed as 1st Mayor Roderick Alcala Swimming Challenge on Sunday at the Ouan’s The Farm Resort in Lucena City.

Aklan standout Kyla Soguilon broke a meet record in the girls’ division while Rio Lorenzo Malapitan and Joey Del Rosario copped three golds each in the 68th Philippine Swimming League (PSL) Leg Series dubbed as 1st Mayor Roderick Alcala Swimming Challenge on Sunday at the Ouan’s The Farm Resort in Lucena City.

Soguilon, a gold medallist in Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore tournaments, dominated the 50-meter backstroke for nine year-old by virtue of her 39.56-second showing. She erased the 38.03 mark of Zoe Marie Hilario in 2012.

Also stamping his class was Malapitan, who copped gold medals in the boys’ 10 years 100m Individual Medley, 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly as well as Del Rosario, who topped the boys’ 7 years 100m Individual Medley, 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly.

“This competition is financially heavy giving 96 individual trophies and more than 1,000 medals for the purpose to catch up with our lag in swimming. National records kept on breaking as a result of PSL regular competition program,” said PSL President Susan Papa.

“PSL would like to commend the effort of coach Virgilio de Luna in hosting this competition supported by Mayor Roderick Alcala,” added Papa.

Veteran international campaigners Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh (8), Iñaki Lorbes (13), Akira Maruo (14), Recs Agustin (13) and Marc Bryan Dula (7) also reigned supreme in their respective categories.

The other gold medalists were Ivan Ferrer, John Louie Danez, Rio Malapitan, Rafael Lentejas III, Julian Lucas Perez, Yohan Cabana, Geshan Toca, Lancelot Abadia, Jericho Tubalado, Genelly Orpiada, Grace Pangilinan, Nicole Hernandez, Aidepp De Luna, Fosmer Yambao, Danae Sarmiento, Francesca Doctor, Lourize Wangkay, Jordan Ken Lobos, Ferdinand Trinidad, Bryan Camacho, Bernice Magtibay, Grace Pangilinan, Bela Louise Magtibay, Jackelyn Calvadores, Robert Pureza, John Llyod Diaz, Alexis Manarin, Jeshrun Tena, Thomas Mueller, Angelo Lazo, Alton De Luna, Marie Angeli Fabian, Shelimi Ruz, Rein Labay, Thrixia Dimapilis, Ameliza Ruz and Almira Villapando.
