A soldier was killed and three others were wounded after government troops clashed with a group of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels Tuesday night in a village in Isabela.
Military chief information officer, Lt. Colonel Ramon Zagala said Wednesday the fighting occurred Tuesday night near Barangay Balagan in San Mariano town.
Troops from the 52nd Division Reconnaissance Company were on patrol when they chanced upon at least 29 NPA rebels.
The encounter lasted an hour, Zagala said.
The soldier’s name was withheld pending notification of his kin. The wounded soldiers were brought first to a station hospital before being airlifted to V. Luna Medical Center in Quezon City.
