• Soldier shot dead in Zamboanga disco bar


    ZAMBOANGA CITY: An unidentified gunman shot dead a Philippine Army soldier in a disco bar in Zamboanga del Norte, police said on Friday. Police said Corporal Medel Tabbada was shot at close range in the face and chest at around 3 a.m. inside the Freeway Disco Bar in the village of Laroche in Sindangan town. It was unknown whether the 35-year old soldier was on a break or alone in the bar when the gunman attacked him. The assailant also took the soldier’s hand gun before escaping alone on a motorbike. It was not immediately known why Tabbada was carrying a weapon inside the bar which is strictly prohibited by the military. Tabbada, a native of Koronadal City in North Cotabato, was the detachment commander of the Army’s Special Forces in the village of Bucana in Sindangan. Tabbada’s body was handed over to his unit’s superior Lt. Syrill Fervez.
