A government trooper was killed while five others were wounded in an ambush by a group of suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels on Tuesday afternoon in Catarman town in Northern Samar, police reports said on Wednesday.
Reports reaching the PNP National Operation Center in Camp Crame identified the slain soldier as a certain Corporal Raymundo, assigned with the army’s 63rd Infantry Battalion based in Lope de Vega town, Northern Samar.
Wounded in the ambush were Sergeant Marlon Constantino; Private First Classes Eric Larazza; Chris Jonathan Bisnar; and Pablito Pomarca and their team leader identified only as a certain Lt. Ching.
It said the ambush took place at around 3:30p.m., Tuesday along the National Highway of Sitio Hibabaongan in Brgy. Washington, Catarman.
