A member of the Army’s 1st Special Forces Battalion was killed on Friday following an encounter between government troops and New People’s Army rebels in Barangay Lilingayon in Valencia City, Bukidnon. Captain Joe Patrick Martinez, spokesman for the Army’s 4th Infantry Division (ID), said the fatality has a rank of Private First Class, but his name was not disclosed pending notification of his next of kin. He said the troops were dispatched to check on the reported extortion activities of the rebels in the area when they were fired upon that triggered a firefight that lasted for two hours.
