A source from the military said the encounter happened in Barangay Dawang, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao.

One soldier was injured in the hour-long clash.

“There is an initial update but still subject to verification that earlier today our forces came in contact with elements they believed were BIFF [Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters] but it turned out to be MILF forces,” the source said.

“Some reports also indicated that the existing mechanism within the peace process was activated,” the source added.

But Capt Jo-ann Petinglay, spokesman for the 6th Infantry Division, cited reports reaching her office saying the soldiers clashed with BIFF forces.

She added that the site of the encounter was near an “MILF area.”

  1. I think the main cause of this problem is the failure passage of the proposed BBL and the President is blaming Senators Marcos and Enrile. These politicians failed to understand that the government is paying a higher price because of their failure to act on this BBL. There will be more lost of lives, more headaches and heartaches because these politicians did not put enough effort on the passage of this BBL. I think, that we, Filipinos, will not see that much of a change in Philippine politics during this lifetime, or half century.
