CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga: A soldier died while a police officer was wounded in a gunfight between Philippine Army soldiers and police authorities in front of a videoke bar in Dinalupihan, Bataan on Monday.
Sr. Supt. Audie Atienza, Bataan Provincial Police Director, identified the fatality as Bryan Fernandez, of Barangay Sabangan, Lingayen.
PO1 Christopher Edquilan of the Dinalupihan Police Office sustained wounds in the melee.
Atienza said the incident happened at the Hill View Videoke Bar along the National Highway in Barangay Happy Valley, Dinalu-pihan, Bataan at about 10 p.m.
Atienza said, Fernandez was at the bar with two other armed men identified as Henry Gade, 27, of Barangay Balsik, Hermosa, Bataan and Danilo Landicho, 47, of Barangay Colo, Dinalupihan. They fired their guns several times, frightening other customers.
When policemen arrived, the three were still in front of the bar but were about to leave on a motorcycle.
As police officers approached them, the three fired away prompting the authorities to retaliate.
In the ensuing firefight, Fernandez died on the spot while Edquilan sustained minor injuries and was brought to the nearest hospital.
Police said Gade and Landicho were wounded and were taken to the Jose Payumo Memorial Hospital for treatment.
