Soldiers rescue villagers from swollen River

BANGUED, Abra: The provincial government has recognized the contribution of troops from the Philippine Army’s 24th Infantry Battalion, Charlie company, to the rescue of at least 10 villagers stranded along the Abra river at Barangay San Antonio on Sunday at the height of Typhoon Carina. Gov. Joy Valera Bernos said they are thankful to the Philippine Army for their cooperation in time of calamities. Abra river, one of the country’s five biggest, swelled because of heavy rains brought by Carina. Barangay Lingey in Bucloc was isolated from the rest of the town when the river overflowed.
