CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija: The Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) has challenged President Rodrigo Duterte to order the fast resolution of the killing of a businessman by a Cabanatuan City councilor, considered to be the first crime committed by a local official under this administration.
Victim Christopher Libunao was killed at AGL Height subdivision in Barangay Caalibangbangan here last July 10.
A witness has pointed to Councilor Eduardo Ballesteros Joson as the main suspect after seeing his photos on Facebook.
An autopsy report showed Libunao died from gunshot wounds in the head and chest.
Another witness said the killing was provoked by a quarrel between the suspect and the victim over parking slots in the subdivision.
Gina dela Cruz, live-in partner of the victim, filed murder charges against Joson before the City Prosecutor’s Office on July 13.
Joson denied the accusation saying, “I am innocent. I was at home sick and entertaining some visitors when the crime happened. I am not hiding. My conscience is clear.”
Joson is the son of the late Vice Mayor Eduardo Joson 3rd and grandson of the longest to reign as governor in Nueva Ecija, the former Eduardo “Tatang” Joson.
VACC chairman Dante Jimenez and his group went to Cabanatuan City on Monday to interview the witness.
